ICON Park Staycation

If you are looking for a fun staycation, something new to do on the weekend, or a new experience on your next vacation, check out ICON Park.

ICON Park has so much to offer!

The Wheel, SEA LIFE Aquarium, Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, StarFlyer, a variety of restaurants, nearby hotels, and more!

Accommodations-

ICON Park has a wide array of resorts and hotels nearby. Some even walking distance! My husband and I had the opportunity to stay at the Wyndham Orlando Resort International Drive. This hotel is just seconds away from ICON Park. You can even see the observation wheel and StarFlyer swings from the parking lot. Planning to head to Universal Studios Orlando Resort during your stay? No problem, Wyndham I Drive is only 2.8 miles from Universal Studios and offers a free shuttle service.

We were graciously treated to their top room, the Executive Suite. I highly recommend booking this room category if you are able. Availability is very hard to come by so be sure to book early! Our suite came with a kitchen, dining room table, living room area, a master bedroom with French doors, two showers, and one and a half bathrooms! Talk about spacious! And the best part was that both resort pools were right outside our windows. Creating a beautiful view from our room and instant access to the pool.

The grounds at Wyndham I Drive are beautiful. There are trickling fountains, flowing lagoons, stunning flower beds, and a dreamy outside patio area perfect for relaxing. The lobby looks shiny and new and the pool chairs are nice and comfortable. They also have a restaurant/pool bar on site, Gatorville. Gatorville is open from 6:30a-12a. So you can enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner poolside. We only ate here for lunch while at the pool one day, but what we had was delicious. I had the chicken quesadilla and my husband had the wings. Both were excellent. Gatorville also has a full bar, as well as specialty cocktails. Be sure to stop by for all day happy hour!

Thank you so much Wyndham I Drive for having us. We had a lovely weekend getaway!

Attractions-

ICON Park has so much to see and do! We went on an underwater adventure at SEA LIFE, took photos with celebrities at Madame Tussauds, conquered our fears on StarFlyer, and took in the surrounding scenery on The Wheel. We thoroughly enjoyed each experience! I recommend looking into one of ICON Park’s combination packages. It is the best way to do it all and get a discount! In case you are wondering how much time you need to plan for these attractions, we spent a little over an hour each at SEA LIFE and Madame Tussauds. We rode The Wheel at night and waited about 45 minutes in line. The ride itself is about 20 minutes long. For StarFlyer we waited about 30 minutes to ride. If you do not wish to wait in line, I recommend going during the day time on a weekday. Whether you go day or night, each experience is unique.

Eateries-

ICON Park has something for everyone! There are over thirteen different places to eat at the park. And even more surrounding restaurants in the nearby area. As previously shared, Sugar Factory Orlando is one of the eateries located at ICON Park. But this trip we had to try another popular establishment, Ole Red! Are you a country music fan? Then look no further than Ole Red Orlando! Ole Red is inspired by Entertainer of the Year, Blake Shelton. This bar and restaurant is the perfect place to kick back, unwind, drink a Blake O’Rinha, and hear some great LIVE country music! Ole Red’s menu is so unique. Everything is made-from-scratch and influenced by Blake.

Ole Red’s has so many fun Blake-inspired cocktails. I had the All About Tonight drink and it was so refreshing! Choose from a Pilsner, Mason Jar, or Hurricane souvenir glass to take home!

To start we tried the Smoked Wings. They were excellent! You honestly didn’t even need the Ole Red hot sauce. Next we had the famous Turkey Shoot Burger and the I’ll Name the Dog “Cuban”! The Turkey Shoot Burger and the Cuban were both massive! If you love a good turkey burger, I highly recommend the Turkey Shoot. The Buffalo onion rings on the burger were so good that I wish they had been a side. The Cuban was also a show-stopper. Unlike a typical Cuban, this sandwich came with Pimento Cheese on it. But, to me it only added to the delicious taste! So if you want to try a new yummy spin on a classic Cuban, definitely order it here. For dessert we had the Turtle Funnel Cake. That’s right, you can get your favorite theme park treat at a restaurant! How fun and unique! Unlike your typical funnel cake, this fried dough is made fancy. Eight mini funnel cakes are drizzled with caramel, chocolate, and candied pecans. They were heavenly! And with eight cakes, there is plenty to share if you have a big party.

Come for the music, stay for the food. Whether you’re looking to hang out with friends after work or have dinner with the family, everyone feels welcome at Ole Red’s. The local talent and live bands are the best in town. So throw your boots on and come on in.

“It’s always been a dream of mine to create something like this where people know they’re going to have a good time as soon as they walk in the door.”

-Blake Shelton
